The quick answer

Knee replacement packages at our three partner hospitals in Bangkok run from 283,000 THB (approx. AUD 11,320, GBP 5,660, USD 8,490) for a standard total knee replacement to 647,000 THB for robotic-assisted surgery. A bilateral package, both knees in one operation, is 680,000 THB. Every knee package includes the implant.

  • Six of the seven packages include the implant. Only the Bumrungrad total hip replacement excludes it.
  • A package price assumes a straightforward case, with no complicating conditions.
  • Flights, accommodation and outpatient physiotherapy after discharge are separate.

Want the figure for your own case? A written quote confirms the price, inclusions and exclusions before you commit to anything.

Each price links to a fuller breakdown: see the complete guide to knee replacement in Bangkok, the individual procedure pages, and the hospital pages for what differentiates each facility.

What the package includes

KDMS is the only one of the three that publishes its package contents, so its inclusions can be stated exactly: the implant, a standard inpatient room for 5 days and 4 nights (one knee) or 6 days and 5 nights (both), nursing services, hospital services, meals and medical equipment charges used for patient care. Its packages use Stryker implant components from the United States.

The package covers a set number of nights in a standard inpatient room. Nights beyond that number are billed separately.

Package contents vary by hospital and are confirmed in your written quote. Thai hospital packages of this type generally cover the surgeon and anaesthetist, operating theatre, the implant where stated, a fixed number of inpatient nights, in-hospital medication and in-hospital physiotherapy. What is not covered is usually just as important: nights beyond the stated number, outpatient physiotherapy after discharge, pre-operative clearance for patients with other medical conditions, and treatment of complications. Ask for the inclusions and exclusions in writing before you pay a deposit. Medidash Global obtains this in writing for every package we quote.

What the package does not include

Applies to all seven packages unless your written quote says otherwise:

One more line that matters: a package price assumes a straightforward case. KDMS states explicitly that its package applies to patients without complicating conditions, and that patients classed ASA III or above, or whose surgery is more complex or longer than standard operating time, fall outside package pricing. Assume the same principle at any hospital.

Budgeting the whole trip

The surgery price is the only figure on this page we can publish as fixed. The rest of your trip cost depends on your departure city, your dates, your accommodation standard and, most importantly, how long your surgeon keeps you in Bangkok. We do not publish estimates for flights and hotels because an invented average helps nobody; price them for your own dates.

Build your budget from these lines:

When you request a quote, ask the coordinator for a written all-in trip estimate for your dates and departure city. That estimate, not a table on any website, is the number to plan around.

How it compares with Australia, the UK and the US

One rule for reading any comparison, including this one: compare against private self-pay prices, not public systems. NHS and Medicare patients pay nothing or close to it; the comparison that matters is what you would pay privately at home.

United Kingdom

Practice Plus Group, one of the lowest-priced UK private providers, lists total knee replacement at £13,799 plus a £145 initial consultation (price list checked 13 September 2026). Its own published comparison for the South West, dated June 2026, shows knee replacement at £15,418 at Spire, £15,985 at Circle and £14,995 at Nuffield. Against that, the Bangkok packages run approx. GBP 5,660 to 12,940 with the implant included.

Total knee replacement, UK private self-pay, against the Bangkok packages
Provider Published price
Practice Plus Group, from £13,799 plus £145 initial consultation
Nuffield, South West £14,995
Spire, South West £15,418
Circle, South West £15,985
Range across the major UK private groups, early 2026 £10,000 to £17,000
Average across that range approx. £15,000
Bangkok packages approx. GBP 5,660 to 12,940, implant included

Practice Plus Group list checked 13 September 2026. The Spire, Circle and Nuffield figures are from Practice Plus Group's own published South West comparison, dated June 2026.

Price is only half the UK picture. NHS referral-to-treatment waits for knee replacement averaged around 28 to 29 weeks in early 2026, with only about six in ten patients treated within the 18-week target. For many people the decision is not Bangkok against the NHS on cost, it is Bangkok against another two seasons of waiting.

Australia

Private hospital and surgeon quotes for self-funded knee replacement in Australia typically fall between A$20,000 and A$35,000 all-in. For an exact figure for your procedure and location, use the Australian Government's Medical Costs Finder, which publishes typical specialist fees and hospital costs by MBS item. The Bangkok packages run approx. AUD 11,320 to 25,880 with the implant included.

Total knee replacement, Australian private self-pay, against the Bangkok packages
Figure Amount
Typical specialist fee, privately insured (MBS item 49518) A$5,200
Typical private hospital fee, privately insured A$18,000
Self-funded, uninsured, all-in, typically quoted A$20,000 to A$35,000
Bangkok packages approx. AUD 11,320 to 25,880, implant included

The self-funded range is what private hospital and surgeon quotes typically come to, not a published schedule. The specialist and hospital fees above are the Medical Costs Finder typical figures for a privately insured patient. Note that the private hospital fee alone, around A$18,000, is more than a standard knee replacement package in Bangkok.

The waiting list is the other half of the Australian case. In 2023-24, half of public patients waited 265 days or more for a total knee replacement, and 25.7% waited over a year.

United States

Cash prices for uninsured patients typically range from about US$20,000 to US$30,000 at ambulatory surgery centres and US$30,000 to US$60,000 at hospitals, based on aggregated price transparency data. For a figure specific to your area, use the FAIR Health consumer lookup. The Bangkok packages run approx. USD 8,490 to 19,410 with the implant included.

Total knee replacement, US cash prices for uninsured patients, against the Bangkok packages
Setting Cash price, uninsured
Medicare payment to hospital, uncomplicated case (DRG 470) approx. US$13,500
Ambulatory surgery centre US$20,000 to US$30,000
Hospital US$30,000 to US$60,000
Bangkok packages approx. USD 8,490 to 19,410, implant included

The Medicare figure shows what an uncomplicated knee replacement costs the system. The cash prices show what uninsured patients are actually charged, which is two to four times as much. Both are aggregated figures, so they are ranges rather than one quoted price.

Why the difference? Lower staffing, facility and overhead costs, and a competitive private hospital market, not lower-specification implants. KDMS publishes that its packages use Stryker implant components from the United States, the same manufacturers used in the UK, Australia and the US. Ask any hospital to name the implant brand and model in your quote.

How to get a fixed quote

Three things produce an accurate quote:

  1. Recent X-rays of the affected knee.
  2. A summary of your medical history, including any other conditions and current medication. Disclose everything; the quote is only real if the assessment is.
  3. A note of what treatment you have already tried, such as physiotherapy, medication or injections.

The orthopaedic team reviews your imaging, you receive a free virtual consultation, and then a written treatment plan with the recommended hospital, procedure, timeline and complete pricing, with inclusions and exclusions stated. Nothing is committed until you say so.

FAQ

How much does a total knee replacement cost in Thailand?

Package prices at our partner hospitals in Bangkok start at 283,000 THB (approx. AUD 11,320, GBP 5,660, USD 8,490) for a standard total knee replacement, rising to 647,000 THB for robotic-assisted surgery. Conversions are approximate at September 2026 rates. Your written quote states the final figure before you commit to anything.

Is the implant included in the price?

In six of our seven packages, yes. The one exception is the Bumrungrad total hip replacement at 425,200 THB, which excludes the implant and will cost more once the implant is added. Always check implant inclusion before comparing two prices, because it is the largest single component that hospitals vary on.

What is not included in the package price?

Flights, hotel or serviced apartment for the outpatient recovery period, hospital nights beyond the number stated in your package, outpatient physiotherapy after discharge, pre-operative clearance if you have other significant medical conditions, treatment of complications, revision surgery, and travel insurance. Companion travel and accommodation are also separate.

Does the package price assume a straightforward case?

Yes, and this matters. KDMS states that its package applies to patients without complicating conditions, and that patients classed ASA III or above, or whose surgery is more complex or longer than standard operating time, fall outside package pricing. Assume the same principle applies at any hospital. Your assessment determines whether the package price applies to you.

What should I budget for the whole trip, not just the surgery?

Budget the package price plus return flights, accommodation for the outpatient recovery period, outpatient physiotherapy, travel insurance, and a contingency for extra hospital nights if your surgeon wants them. A companion adds flights and accommodation. Build the budget around the stay your surgeon recommends, not the shortest possible trip.

Is the quote fixed, or can the price change?

The package price is fixed for a straightforward case. It can change if your assessment finds conditions that put you outside package criteria, if surgery is more complex or longer than standard, or if you need hospital nights beyond the package. Get the inclusions, the exclusions and the circumstances that would change the price in writing before paying a deposit.

Why is knee replacement cheaper in Thailand?

Lower staffing, facility and overhead costs, and a competitive private hospital market, not lower-specification implants. KDMS publishes that its packages use Stryker implant components from the United States, the same manufacturers used in the UK, Australia and the US. Ask any hospital to name the implant brand and model in your quote.
