Our partner hospitals
These hospitals perform the surgery. Medidash Global handles everything around it: the surgeon assessment from your own X-rays, a fixed written quote with inclusions and exclusions stated, visa and travel guidance, airport transfers, hotel near the hospital, an English-speaking coordinator with you in Bangkok, and follow-up coordination once you are home. The hospitals do not provide these. There is no extra cost to you for arranging your treatment through us.
The three questions nobody else answers
Most sites selling surgery abroad hide the price, wave away the risk and go quiet about what happens if things do not go to plan. This site exists to answer all three.
What it actually costs
Package prices from all three partner hospitals, published in THB with what is included and what is not. From 283,000 THB with the implant included.
See the real pricesHow safe it really is
Registry data, not marketing. Infection risk is generally estimated at 1% to 2% internationally, and the questions worth asking any hospital are the ones about its own numbers.

About KDMSHow it works
- Send your X-rays and history. Through the form or WhatsApp. A coordinator responds and arranges a free virtual consultation.
- Receive a surgeon's assessment and fixed quote. A written treatment plan with the recommended hospital, procedure and complete pricing. Nothing is committed at this point. If you are not a suitable candidate, we will tell you honestly.
- Fly to Bangkok. The coordinator books accommodation near the hospital, airport transfers and hospital registration. You book your own flights; choose a flexible return fare.
- Surgery and your inpatient stay. Pre-operative assessment, then surgery by the orthopaedic team. The published KDMS package covers 5 days and 4 nights for one knee; other hospitals state their stay in your written quote.
- Physiotherapy, follow-up, fly home. Walking training starts the day after surgery. You stay in Bangkok for outpatient physiotherapy until your surgeon clears you to fly. The timing is set by your surgeon, not by the package.

A real patient, shared with his written consent
Steven's knee replacement at KDMS
"Don't wait. Time is precious."
Steven arrived in Bangkok in severe pain after years on an NHS waiting list, and at his follow-up around four and a half weeks after surgery he was walking noticeably better. His full story, with his consent, is on the KDMS Hospital page.
One patient's progress at four weeks is his own, not a typical or promised outcome. Recovery timelines vary.
Why Bangkok
Bangkok has the country's concentration of specialist orthopaedic capability, the largest international patient infrastructure, and the most direct flight connections from Australia, the UK and the US. For a beach holiday the answer would be different; for joint replacement it is Bangkok. Start with the complete guide to knee replacement in Bangkok.
Common questions
How much does a total knee replacement cost in Thailand?
Package prices at our partner hospitals in Bangkok start at 283,000 THB (approx. AUD 11,320, GBP 5,660, USD 8,490) for a standard total knee replacement, rising to 647,000 THB for robotic-assisted surgery. Conversions are approximate at September 2026 rates. Your written quote states the final figure before you commit to anything.
How long is recovery after a knee replacement?
The NHS timeline is a good guide: stitches or clips come out at around 10 days, a follow-up appointment falls at about six weeks, and most people move from crutches to walking without an aid around the six-week mark if they are ready. Full recovery can take several months or longer, depending on age and general health.
Is knee replacement in Thailand safe?
The honest answer is that it depends on the hospital, not the country. Bumrungrad has held JCI accreditation since 2002 and received its seventh re-accreditation in January 2024. What matters more than a badge is the specific hospital's knee replacement volume and its own infection and revision rates. Ask for those numbers. A hospital that tracks them will give them to you.
What happens if there is a complication after I go home?
What a package covers if something goes wrong varies by hospital and is set out in the package terms, not the headline price. Before paying, get written answers to three questions: what is covered if a complication is treated before you leave Thailand, what happens if a problem appears once you are home, and who pays for a revision if one is needed. Medidash Global obtains these terms in writing for any package we quote.
How long does a knee replacement last?
Pooled national registry data published in The Lancet in 2019, covering roughly 300,000 total knee replacements, found that around 82% were still in place at 25 years. For partial knee replacements the figure was around 70%. Still in place means the implant had not been revised; it is not a personal probability for any individual patient.
Is there an alternative to knee replacement?
Often, yes, at least for a time. Knee replacement is generally the treatment for end-stage osteoarthritis once non-surgical management has failed, not a first step. NICE recommends that anyone offered joint replacement receives full information on their options and that the decision is made jointly with their clinician.
